The Taverners, Godshill, Isle of Wight

Mmmmm, feeling really sleepy after a delicious birthday lunch at The Taverners, Godshill. Defeated by their amazing Lemon Meringue! What better way to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon 🙂 Love their dedication to using only seasonal Island produce. A must if you’re visiting. Thanks Grandad! xxx http://www.thetavernersgodshill.co.uk/

Ventnor is one of our favourite places on the Island. Definitely a Caledon recommendation for a day out: mooch round the Botanical Gardens, lunch in the cafe there, gorgeous chunky sarnies and lovely risotto. Kids loved the playground and feeding the fish. Walk along the coastal path to Ventnor beach with breathtaking sea views, passing through the idyllic Steephill Cove – a real gem of a place. Minghella ice cream on the esplanade and a paddle in the sea. One great day out, thank you Continue reading →

As a guest recently pointed out, a great way to get directly from Cowes to Newport is the cycle path, a flat 4 mile track that starts just up the road from The Caledon. It follows the old railway track and is really pretty in places looking out over the River Medina and completely avoids the traffic on the Newport Road. I often go for a run with our dog Charlie along here, but hadn’t really considered recommending it before now, so definitely one to Continue reading →

Just how fab did our lovely Queen look yesterday? She came to see us in Cowes on what was the last day of her Jubilee tour. Cowes was absolutely buzzing, amazing weather and sooo many people turned up waving their flags, it was a fantastic day to be part of, definitely one to remember 🙂 P.S. Thanks to Jo for the close up pic of the queen, we didn’t get quite that close! The Caledon Guest Housewww.the-caledon.co.uk

Clean wellies!! Thank you, thank you lovely guests for helping to spare our house from all the Festival mud! Much appreciated 🙂 A famous fry up to say thanks? Hope you all had fun last night, we did! Pearl Jam this evening, whoop! The Caledon Guest Housewww.the-caledon.co.uk

Congratulations to Mark, Rob and Joe on cycling 100km round the Island yesterday! The Isle of Wight Randonnee had record numbers of cyclists this year, over 2500 taking part. It was pretty cold and windy but the boys did us proud! If you think you might fancy having a go, the British Heart Foundation are hosting the next event on Saturday September 29th. Register now and book your room with us. We’ll be sure to look after you and your weary bones after your ride :o) Continue reading →

A big thank you to Gordon from The Wight Wood Company www.wightwood.co.uk for our lovely hand made shelves to house our jams. Beautifully made from reclaimed timber from a coastguards cottage on Ryde seafront! Love the history 🙂 We are also looking after a few satisfyingly chunky limited edition doorstops made from reclaimed Ryde Pier timber, yours to take home for £20.

Mountain boarding with Isle of Wight Adventure Activities in Freshwater last Friday was fab! It was a gorgeous sunny morning looking over the bay and such fun, we would definitely recommend having a go with friends. A delicious pub lunch at The Red Lion in Freshwater afterwards was well deserved too – lots of tumbles and walking back up the hill was hungry work! Note – we all had very sore muscles the next day! Isle of Wight Adventure Activities have a great range of Continue reading →
