Yummy new muesli and porridge from Calbourne Water Mill, Isle of Wight
As part of our fab, locally sourced Caledon breakfast menu, we are now offering delicious muesli from Calbourne Water Mill www.calbournewatermill.co.uk. Milled and packaged onsite, the oats are deliciously creamy. The muesli comes in amazing varieties such as Blissful Blueberry, Cheerful Cherry and Millers Mix. It contains no added salt, sugar or preservatives making it one very healthy breakfast option! I really love the stuff, pretty addicted to Cheerful Cherry at the moment 🙂
You can go and visit the mill and see it in action most days in the summer season, and you can even take a milling course.
It is situated just outside the pretty village of Calbourne. The village itself named after the stream or ‘bourne’ that powers the millstones which still produces between 30 and 40 tons flour the ‘traditional way’.
It sits in 35 acres of beautiful countryside and is one of the oldest water mills in the UK, with a history that can be traced right back to the 11th Century. It was first mentioned almost a thousand years ago in the Doomsday Book in AD 1086 when there were two mills in Calbourne which together were worth 6s 3d!
As well producing lovely milled oats and flour, Calbourne Mill is a popular tourist destination with a museum, ancient oak woodlands and lovely ponds where you can feed the peacocks, doves, ducks and fish. You can even hire a punt to explore the mill stream, golf on the putting course or have a game of croquet on the lawn.
Next time you’re staying with us, be sure to try it out 🙂
